Beauty of Web - phpXperts Seminar 2010

Almost 1 month ago phpXperts moderator Hasin Hayder announced phpXperts Seminar 2010. It was a beginning of a new journey. Rising Developers (fresh graduates), Students, Rising Entrepreneurs has no connection with the industry standards. phpXperts’ intentions were to bridge the developers with mature industry and it’s current trends.

Many people claims they are developers/experts/professionals, but without any communication with the industry, it’s not easy to understand the industry demands, which will develop themselves.

Omi Azad came with the opening presentation titled Professionalism Inside Out. This presentation was a guide to the audience by telling them what to avoid and what to adopt to become a professional.

Configure your production Server by Yourself presented by S.M. Ibrahim Lavlu. For the very first time Lavlu made a public presentation, but audience did get some knowledge on how to deploy a LAMPP server.

trivuz

After that MS Alam Trivuz came with the presentation Running at Maximum HP without Tearing Apart. This presentation was also a guide to the professionals on how they can get maximum output of themselves.

After that Javascript Wash presented by M A Hossain Tonu. The objectives of the presentation were, how developers can optimize their JavaScript source codes for their website or web application.

Developing Better PHP Projects was presented by Emran Hasan. It did not highlight how you can write PHP codes, but it emphasized on how you can work on your projects in a managed way, so that you make perfect delivery on perfect time.

After that we gave floor to 2 sponsors to say something about their company, activities and openings.

Even Better Debugging came after that and presented very well by Murshed Ahmmad Khan. He focused on how you can debug your projects faster/smoother and in a professional industry standard way.

Expert Arafat Rahman came with the presentation Web Application Development Using MVC Framework (Kohana) and highlighted about MVC framework, Kohana as MVC framework, how to install/configure & use in your project.

Hossain

Getting control of your source code, manage version of your code is always a part of the game. Git: Stupid, Fast and Distributed Content Tracker was presented by Mozammel Haque. Very professional explanation on how to manage source, why to manage source and how Git can ease the version/source controlling.

zia

jQuery is a very popular among web developers. Ziaul Haq Zia came with his presentation jQuery plugin development. The presentation was very simple and effective.

How you can scale your network by using Facebook Graph API on your network and that was the title of Saidur Rahman Bijon. As Facebook related development is very popular, audience enjoyed the session very much.

CodeMan! With NoSQL! was the title of NHM Tanveer Hasan Khan’s presentation. It was something about using some DB system, which will balance your HUGE traffic/request. The presenter himself said that developers don’t need to know this in general but they will need to learn and follow the instructions if they are working with a big database, traffic, request.

HTML5 is not finalize by W3C yet but Browsers are getting ready for next generation web language. Zakir Hossain Raju represented HTML5 with his presentation. He focused the features of HTML5, explained the browser compatibility very well.

Many of the PHP developers have no idea what Framework is. Nurul Ferdous came with his presentation Running with Doctrine 2 and Zend Framework 1.10. Ferdous explained many technical things but he could not concentrate on how to invite developers to use frameworks.

Many developers fascinated about porting web applications into Desktop and Desktop Apps with Web Techs was the topic by Abu Ashraf Masnun. This was a exciting presentation.

A good programmer follows some standards for coding his program and there are some tricks you can follow on your OOP codes. In Standard Coding, OOP Techniques and Code Re-use presentation Rayhan Chowdhury explained how you can do all that and also Re-use your code.

CodeIgniter is a very popular PHP framework. ACL in CodeIgniter was Mizanur Rahman’s presentation title and explained Access Control List in CodeIgniter.

Server caching can save your bandwidth and your money. So Anis Uddin Ahmad came with his presentation Cache to Save Your Cash and explained the caching system

So you want to start your own Startup? Kickstarting Your Startup was the title of Hasin Hayder’s presentation, which encouraged the audience to starting their own business. Audience got a good idea what to do, where to start and where to sell.

Brac University Computer Club helped phpXperts to organize the event at BRAC University auditorium. 200 audience were present in the room, 250 more audiences were accommodated in the cafeteria through live video feed and for the very first time in Bangladesh approximately 2500 audience saw the event live through http://phpxperts.net. Omi Azad was the anchor of the event & presented the event very well. Both physical and online audiences appreciated the presentation and we must quote a part of his speech, which became the best part of the event. The situation was, there were 2 Apple Macbooks in front of the presentation field. Presenters were using both of them to display the same presentation both in the hall and the cafeteria, they had to use both machines as the projector Y cable was not working well. In the middle of the program Omi said, “Just got an SMS from someone in this room, which says, ‘Microsoft is one of the sponsors of this event, then why 2 Macbooks are on the presentation desk?’ Well, I have the perfect answer for you. We keep 2 Macbooks on the desk to show you that you need 2 Macs to do 1 PCs job. :)”

Aloashbei Grand Finale

About 4-months ago Microsoft and GrameenPhone launched application development contest under the Aloashbei for mobile platform. The mobile application development platform has been established 2 years before to create/develop mobile phone-based applications by individual/emerging developers, share technology resources and bridge between the developers and the industry.

To compete in the contest, total 186 Mobile apps were posted, 52 were selected in the first round, after judges seen
the demos, only 10 were selected for final marking. The panel of judges finally selected 3 apps as 1st, 2n & 3rd winner: 

The winning applications are:

  • Champion: Khoj The Search The application has been developed by a group of 3 developers -- Md. Avishek Ahmed, M Parvez Rashid and Khalid Mahmood. All of them are lecturers at American International University–Bangladesh.
  • 2nd Position – Finder Ultimate The application has been developed by Shiblee Imtiaz Hasan, a final year undergraduate student of Computer Science at BRAC University.
  • 3rd Position – IPO Result Search This application has been developed by Sheikh Shaer Hassan, Fuad Bin Omar and Md. Fattahul Alam. All 3 of them are working in their own company Nascenia Limited.
Aloashbei Grand Finale

 

The gala award ceremony program was glorified with the presence of ICT Minister, University Professors, BASIS president apart of GrameenPhone CEO and Microsoft Bangladesh Country Manager. The speakers were cordially
appreciated for taking such a noble initiatives and contribution of Microsoft that would help developer/entrepreneurs to
develop bright career in ICT, as this program align with Govt.’s Digital Bangladesh 2021 vision. 

After the soft launch (December, 2009), workshops, official launch (June, 2010) and the award program, Aloashbei got massive attention of University students, developers, industry people thru wide-media coverage. The Aloashbei website got 54,000+ hits from 82 countries/ territory and it has 5,000+ registered member. With this wide and significant reach to developers, we can look forward to carry-out this program/contest to next-level as a flagship program for the developer community in Bangladesh.
